Traditional Okinawan Weapons

Okinawan Kobudo is a Japanese term that can be translated as "old martial way of Okinawa". It generally refers to the classical weapon traditions of Okinawan martial arts, such as the Rokushaku Bo (six foot staff), Sai, Tunkua (or Toonfa), Nunchaku, Nunti Bo, Jo (three foot staff), and Eku (oar), along with other more esoteric weapons.

USKL:DAC provides training in Matayoshi Kobudo as preserved by the Matayoshi Kobudo Kodokan International(MKKI) under the direction of Franco Sanguinetti Sensei. Sensei David Michelson of the USKL is a member and affiliated instructor of Matayoshi Kobudo Kodokan. Sensei Michelson strives to teach both the weapons tradition and the budo spirit as he has been taught by Sanguinetti Sensei.

Sensei Michelson is assisted by Sensei James Augur (2nd Kyu Brown Belt MKKI, 5th Dan Black Belt Shotokan Karate).

All students studying Kobudo at the DAC are asked to become members of the MKKI and to pay a minimal annual fee ($75.00) to the organization. There are multiple opportunities to train directly with Franco Sanguinetti Sensei in San Marcos, California each year, which Michelson Shidouin will encourage and facilitate.
