I started my Wing Chun training in 1974 back in Hong Kong under Leung Ting lineage. After migrating to U.S., I started training under Sifu Stephen Chan, a disciple of the Leung Sheung lineage, who was the first disciple of Ip Man Wing Chun in Hong Kong. Back then there was no ranking system like nowadays - only years of training, sparring, and facing challenges from other lineages or from other martial artists. In 2004 I decided to start teaching Wing Chun to a select few of dedicated students out of my garage. Now that I am retired from working full time, I have more time and would like to share this art on a broader scale. I was encouraged by Ty Aponte (proprietor – Defense Arts Center and Wing Chun student) to offer classes. Wing Chun Gung Fu’s main core emphasize is on foundation, footwork, and elbow structure with a comprehensive set of principles, which is defined as 'simplicity, directness, practicality, economy of movement, and minimum use of brute strength’. The Wing Chun philosophy is all about technique and not brute force. This means that a smaller practitioner of this art with good technique can potentially beat a bigger or stronger opponent. This style of Gung Fu can be successfully taught to anyone interested to learn, regardless of one’s physical abilities. Classes are structured, students will follow a planned curriculum.
